1.

Water is uniquely vulnerable to pollution. Known as a “universal solvent,” water is able to dissolve more substances than any other liquid on earth. It’s the reason we have Kool-Aid and brilliant blue waterfalls. It’s also why water is so easily polluted. Toxic substances from farms, towns, and factories readily dissolve into and mix with it, causing water pollution.

Categories of Water Pollution

Groundwater

When rain falls and seeps deep into the earth, filling the cracks, crevices, and porous spaces of an aquifer (basically an underground storehouse of water), it becomes groundwater—one of our least visible but most important natural resources. Nearly 40 percent of Americans rely on groundwater, pumped to the earth’s surface, for drinking water. For some folks in rural areas, it’s their only freshwater source. Groundwater gets polluted when contaminants—from pesticides and fertilizers to waste leached from landfills and septic systems—make their way into an aquifer, rendering it unsafe for human use. Ridding groundwater of contaminants can be difficult to impossible, as well as costly. Once polluted, an aquifer may be unusable for decades, or even thousands of years. Groundwater can also spread contamination far from the original polluting source as it seeps into streams, lakes, and oceans.

Surface water

Covering about 70 percent of the earth, surface water is what fills our oceans, lakes, rivers, and all those other blue bits on the world map. Surface water from freshwater sources (that is, from sources other than the ocean) accounts for more than 60 percentof the water delivered to American homes. But a significant pool of that water is in peril. According to the most recent surveys on national water quality from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, nearly half of our rivers and streams and more than one-third of our lakes are polluted and unfit for swimming, fishing, and drinking. Nutrient pollution, which includes nitrates and phosphates, is the leading type of contamination in these freshwater sources. While plants and animals need these nutrients to grow, they have become a major pollutant due to farm waste and fertilizer runoff. Municipal and industrial waste discharges contribute their fair share of toxins as well. There’s also all the random junk that industry and individuals dump directly into waterways.

Don't let the Trump administration pollute our drinking water TAKE ACTION

Ocean water

Eighty percent of ocean pollution (also called marine pollution) originates on land—whether along the coast or far inland. Contaminants such as chemicals, nutrients, and heavy metals are carried from farms, factories, and cities by streams and rivers into our bays and estuaries; from there they travel out to sea. Meanwhile, marine debris—particularly plastic—is blown in by the wind or washed in via storm drains and sewers. Our seas are also sometimes spoiled by oil spills and leaks—big and small—and are consistently soaking up carbon pollution from the air. The ocean absorbs as much as a quarter of man-made carbon emissions.

Point source

When contamination originates from a single source, it’s called point source pollution. Examples include wastewater (also called effluent) discharged legally or illegally by a manufacturer, oil refinery, or wastewater treatment facility, as well as contamination from leaking septic systems, chemical and oil spills, and illegal dumping. The EPA regulates point source pollution by establishing limits on what can be discharged by a facility directly into a body of water. While point source pollution originates from a specific place, it can affect miles of waterways and ocean.

Nonpoint source

Nonpoint source pollution is contamination derived from diffuse sources. These may include agricultural or stormwater runoff or debris blown into waterways from land. Nonpoint source pollution is the leading cause of water pollution in U.S. waters, but it’s difficult to regulate, since there’s no single, identifiable culprit.

Transboundary

It goes without saying that water pollution can’t be contained by a line on a map. Transboundary pollution is the result of contaminated water from one country spilling into the waters of another. Contamination can result from a disaster—like an oil spill—or the slow, downriver creep of industrial, agricultural, or municipal discharge.

1. Write a paragragh about what we should do to save energy. (180 - 200 words)

                                                 Write

Energy is classified into two main groups: renewable and non-renewable.
The energy generated from natural sources such as the sun, wind, rain, and tides is called renewable energy. They are plentiful and can be generated again and again. They also have low carbon emissions so they are considered green and environment-friendly. Moreover, using renewable energy can reduce your electricity bills. Unfortunately, solar energy can be only used during the daytime but not during night or the rainy season. Geothermal energy also can bring toxic chemicals beneath the earth's surface to the top and can create environmental changes.
Non-renewable energy is the energy taken from other sources that are available on earth. They are limited and will run out in the future. They can't be re-generated in a short time.Fossil fuels - natural gas, oil and coal - are examples of them. They are cheap and easy to use. However, when burnt, they release toxic gases in the air so they cause serious environmental changes such as global warming. And the important thing is that non-renewable sources will expire someday.

 2. Write a paragragh about one person you love in a book. (180 - 200 words)

                                               Write

We meet many people in our lives, but there are some people who have a great impact on our lives. I admire my mother a lot. She is an ideal housewife of fifty. She was born in a respectable Catholic family. She is very polite, affectionate and intelligent. Besides, she manages the family very nicely. She does every piece of household work. Moreover, she takes great care of all of us. She loves me very darely. She is ready to sacrifice her own happiness for my happiness. She hopes to see me happy even at the cost of her own life. She holds my good above everytthing in the world. Her anxiety knows no bounds if I fall ill. She does not enjoy a wink of sleep. But her face beams with joys when I come around. Next,my mother is very religious. She says her prayers five times a day. Then, she is also very kind to the poor. She tries to help the poor as far as possible. My mom possesses a good sense of sanitation. She keeps our house neat and clean. She is a woman of delicate taste. She reads books when she gets time. She bears a good moral character. She advives us to follow the path of the truth and honesty. She also advises us to be polite, gentle and modest. And finally, I hold my mother in profound respect. I am greatly indebted to my mother.

2. Những bài viết tiếng Anh về công việc trong tương lai

Bài viết 1:

After high school there are numerous things I want to do and accomplish in my life.

I want to attend college and law school. After I start working for a few years, I plan to settle down, get married, and have children. I still want to have a career, but I want to raise a family too. I’m not sure what will happen after this or that even this will take place because I can’t really plan out my life. Life is an unpredictable thing. There are many obstacles that may get in the way of perusing my goals. Some of the obstacles are college and law school. It takes a lot of studying, hard work, and determination in becoming a lawyer. With hard work and determinationI plan to accomplish my goals, whatever they may be, and live up to my full potential.

Bài viết 2:

Today, it is not easy to choose a career. Hundreds of students pass various examinations every year and compete with one another for positions in the various professions which are not so many as there are applicants. I would, however, like to choose teaching as my career.

Teaching is an interesting career for several reasons. As a teacher I can learn many things, especially if I teach to an udder-secondaryschool. If I teach History or English, for example, I have to read many books to make my teaching lessons more interesting to my pupils. Thus, I can acquire more knowledge of the subjects that I teach than what I can learn from the class text books. It is indeed afact that a teacher learns a lot from the class text books; but that is hardly enough to make the teacher’s lessons interesting to pupils.

Well! I´m good at Mathematics, Art, exploring or discovering new things… I like English, socializing and Science… I don´t have a special hobby, but in my free time (if this can be considered!!) I like singing, writing lyrics in English, searching for information about many things, taking photos and travelling.

With so many things I like, I think that every job can be “acceptable”, except jobs where the employee has keep himself imprisoned in an office all day long… But the funniest thing is that I’m a little bit lazy and I would like to be a singer ever since I know myself…

But right now I would like to be a doctor! I know that the bad part is that doctors have to keep themselves in an office, but who cares?!… I like helping people very much and I enjoy learning all I can about everything! I only hope that my future job will bring me lots of success!!!

It´s obvious that when we go to a job interview we shouldn´t chew gum, come unprepared, look down onto the floor, put our leg up or play with items on the desk, slap the interviewer on the hand, be late and talk fast or speak in slang. We should answer all the questions clearly and directly, bring an extra copy of our CV and references, continuously keep eye contact with the interviewer, display sense of humor and self-confidence, dress appropriately for the interview, get ourselves a strong knowledge of the company, industry and position, give a firm handshake, know the company that is interviewing us, look attentive and sit properly and upright in your chair.

I am very worried with the unemployment because if right now there is no work for everybody, in the future this will be even worse … I think that part-time jobs are good, because young people can get some work experience… And when people want some extra money this could be heaven, just joking!!!

Maybe later I will look for one part-time and yes if I could, I would already have one (to buy important things). But part-time jobs have advantages and disadvantages, too! When we´re studying part-time jobs can take us precious we need to study and our concentration…

Bài viết 4:

Hi! My name is Ana and I’m 14 years old. My favourite subjects are Sciences and Languages. My free time activities are basketball, swimming, chatting on the internet and reading my favourites books. I really like playing with children but I also like to defend my friends and help them solving their problems. So I’d like to go into the medicine or law. Medicine because I love helping and doing everything to help other people. Law because I love defending innocent people and making justice, to change our world into a better place…

I’m an ambitious girl, because I know that medicine and law are very complicated and difficult areas! I’ll have to study a lot. But I think that in the future I can be a judge or a paediatrician and find a good job.

My dream is having my own clinic. So I have 4 months to decide what area I would like to go. I know I have to go to many jobs interviews… they are very important to give a good impression. We should answer all questions clearly and directly, dress appropriately for the interview and bring extra copies of our CV’s and references. We shouldn’t chew gum, talk fast or slang and be late to the interview. I’m worried about unemployment, because there are many areas where people are qualified and they can’t find a job. Some of them have to fight and try other options.

I would like to have a part-time job, because I like to have my own money to buy my things. Having a part-time job is very good to obtain some experience and responsibility. The advantage of having a part-time job is the experience and the disadvantages are the less hours of studying and the little wage. I expect to find a good job in the future!

Topic 1: Write about types of pollution.

P/s : Chi 1 cai o nhiem thoi ...

Nowadays there are a lot of types of pollution such as : air pollution, water pollution, visual pollution .... and noise pollution. Noise pollution is constant and loud sound. To measure the loudness, or volumn of sounds , people use a unit called a decibel. When a sound is louder than 70 decibels, it can cause noise pollution. Do you know that the noise from a vacuum cleaner or motorcycle can result in permanent hearing loss after eight hours ? The sounds of a concert are even more serious. Noise pollution can also lead to headaches and high blood pressure. If you are listening to music throughout headphones, and other people can hear it, it means the music is too loud and unsafe.

Topic 2 : Talk about natural diasters and ways to prepare for them.

Today, there are more and more natural disasters that most people affect. In my opinion, we can't prevent natural disaster but we can have some preparation for them. There are many types of natural disasters but typhoon is a popular in our country. Firstly, typhoon is a tropical storm with wind and heavy rain. When it strike, it can weak havoc across large areas and effect lot of life or extensive damage to property . Flood can be happened by long heavy rain and people also can be became homeless. Last year lots of people were seriously injure in a typhoon. Natural disasters are also very dangerous but we also have some simple preparation . The first step is learnt about the risk in your area and read the information about natural disasters on gorvernment site. Next, find out that the rescue and emergency workers advice. It 's also important that you put together emergency supply it and should include food, water, medicine, document, and some money. Finally , plan safe places to meet your family and get to know the evacuation routes and shelter. In short, everyone sholuld protect environment to reduce this natural disasters.

3) Talk about ways of communication now and in the future.

Communication is a neccesary for eberyone. In present , there are three basic forms of communication: verbal, non-verbal and multimedia.

First, verbal ( meeting F2F) is a important way of communication help you success. I like hanging out with my friends and my friends and when I meet F2F with them I feel very confident. It explains why I can speak English easily. Let ' s try! You will have a great time. Secondly, you have a different thing to say non- verbal ( using signs ) will be a good choice. For example, you make your mother sad , you can use a sign to say ' sorry ' to her. Thirdly, with develop of science and technology , many multimedia appear such as video chatting , emailing,... You can know more information despite you still stay at home. But in the future, we can use telepathy or holography. Telepathy uses a tiny device place into our head. We will be communicating just by thought over the network. Holography will help us in our work. Even though, I prefer to chat with my friends. Life is more meaningful that way !
