When we set off from London our plan was to drive through to Scotland. After some time, howerver, we heard over the car radio that all the roads in the North were frozen................so we turned around and drove back to London.
to whisk sb away = to move sb out of the way rapidly
to drift out = to move out of a place slowly

After that, we have to overcome what hurricanes destroy, such as rebuilding houses, and many other things, if we live in that area, we should plant trees, protect the environment and many other practical thíng.
