A tsunami is a natural disaster more devastating than earthquakes, tornadoes or any other disaster you can think of. Tsunami is a Japanese word that means harbor wave. A tsunami happens when huge waves are formed after something under the ocean occurs to make these large waves form. Erupting volcanoes can also cause tsunamis to occur. The waves start in one area but they move quickly in all different directions once the tsunami begins. Tsunamis begin as an under the water earthquake. One day in 1963, a dolphin named Elvar and a famous astronomer, Carl Sagan, were playing a little game. The astronomer was visiting an institute which was looking into the way dolphins communicate with each other. He was standing at the edge of one of tanks where several of these highly intelligent, friendly creatures were kept. Elvar had just swum up alongside him and had turned on his back. “Oh, you’re so lucky living in Bath, It’s such a wonderful, lovely, historical place,” people say enthusiastically, and all you can think of is the awful parking, the crowds of tourists, the expensive shops, the narrow-minded council, and the terrible traffic....
Luckily, I don’t live in Bath but nearly ten miles away in a village called Limpley Stoke in the Avon valley. It seems to be normal in the countryside these days for professional people who work in the town prefer to live in the villages, this makes the housing so expensive that the villagers and agricultural workers have to live in the cheaper accommodation in town, with the result that the farmers commute out to the farm and everyone else commutes in. UPI-A flash flood swept across the coastal plain about 100 miles southwest of here, killing a large number of villagers in a market place yesterday morning. Reporters from the area said 75 bodies had been counted, and dozens of people were missing.
The flood followed heavy rains which filled the coastal plain's dry creek beds to overflowing. The flood crest, several feet high, hit the village of Khemis Nagua at mid-morning yesterday as farmers from t surrounding area joined townsfolk in an open market place.
The roaring water swept the village's flimsy dwelling places, the market sheds, shoppers, cattle and farm implements for almost as soon as it started, the reporters said, as the crest swept out to sea. Rescue workers quickly moved into the area from Safi, aboyt 25 miles futher south.
